In 1903, David Sanwald had perhaps the best idea of his life. Instead of continuing to earn his living as a licensed signatory in another brewery, the Swabian worker founded his own company, the first "Stuttgart Wheat Brewery". The company prospered so quickly that the founder called in reinforcements: his first brewmaster came from Offenburg to Stuttgart at the turn of the century, and from then on, working together, they were directly on the way to becoming a specialty brewery. In addition to the wheat beer business, David Sanwald wanted to try his hand at other, albeit top-fermented, beers. A smart decision: The company philosophy, which was later adopted by his son Otto and granddaughter Anneliese together with her husband, Dr. Ing. Heinz Benz, quickly earned Sanwald a reputation as a very special Swabian brewery. The advertising slogan at the time underlined this: "Sanwald brews special beers".
