Mont des Cats is a Trappist beer brewed and bottled at the Notre-Dame Abbey in Scourmont , near Chimay in Belgium , by the Trappist fathers on behalf of the Mont-des-Cats Abbey located in France .
Although historically, the brewing of a Trappist beer at the Mont-des-Cats Abbey dates back to 1835, the implementation of the law on the separation of Church and State in 1905 , dealt a fatal blow to production, as part of the staff emigrated to Belgium , notably to the Saint-Sixte Abbey in Westvleteren . In addition, the brewery buildings were destroyed during a bombing in 1918. This Trappist beer could be the first in France to be able to display the Authentic Trappist Product logo. However, this authorization can only be definitively granted on the condition that it is brewed within the walls of the Mont-des-Cats abbey , which is not in the abbey's plans for the moment
