The dark, reddish-brown Trappist beer from Westmalle, the Dubbel, has a rich and complex flavor thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle (7%). This is characterised by hints of caramel, malt and fruity esters reminiscent of ripe banana. The first encounter with the Dubbel from Westmalle is a cream-colored thick head. After drinking, this leaves a beautiful lacework in the glass. But the real memory of this balanced Trappist beer with a soft mouthfeel is undoubtedly the long, dry aftertaste. The name 'Dubbel' refers to a doubling of the ingredients of the light, original Trappist beer that the brothers brewed for themselves. Our Trappist beer carries the international Authentic Trappist Product label. Read here what that means.
The brewery is very modern, but still completely adapted to the traditional brewing process. At Westmalle therefore aim for a balance between innovation and tradition . They apply the latest techniques, but still want to see, test and taste everything themselves. The brewery is located within the walls of the Trappist abbey. The brothers determine the policy and supervise its implementation. They use the income to live on and to reinvest in the brewery. What remains, they share with other abbeys of the order and donate to charities.
