No one was ready for Pale Ale in 1980, and today no one can imagine a fridge without it. Its bold hops and smooth malt flavor shocked taste buds just before it sparked the American craft beer revolution. Pale Ale is still the one you hop to perfection and the one you're proud to share. Pale Ale put Cascade hops on the map, its intense citrus and pine aromas finding balance with the subtle sweetness of caramelized malt. Source: Sierra Nevada
Ken Grossman grew accustomed to pursuing his curiosity. His early years of backyard experimentation and undercover science projects paved the way for the ultimate discovery: home brewing. Fascinated by the alchemy of fermentation, Ken opened The Home Brew Shop in Chico, slowly experimenting with more hoppy flavors at a time when American beer was not known for taking risks. When he finally opened a brewery, Ken scoured junkyards and abandoned dairies to find the tanks, pipes and valves he needed to hand-build the original Sierra Nevada brewhouse. On November 15, 1980, he put his first batch of craft beer to the test. That heady stout was a 13-hour labor of love and, after one sip, he knew he had a good one. The Pale Ale that followed sparked a true craft beer revolution. The adventure never stopped and our curiosity continues to grow.
