Initially, a very good mouthfeel of alcohol and softness. This is followed by an increasing bitterness, partially from the hop, but also from the roasted malt and chocolate malt. Towards the end a nice balance between bitterness, sour and sweet.
Brewing beer is a centuries-old tradition at the Appelhoek site in Melle. The first traces of brewing activity at this site date back to 1654. In 1904, Léon Huyghe started working in the local brewery. In 1925, his son Albert and son-in-law Louis Droesbeque joined Léon Huyghe in the brewery and the brewery was officially renamed Brewery L. Huyghe. Today, Alain De Laet, the fourth generation of Huyghe, stirs the brewing pots. The little elephant born in 1989 has become an international icon.
