This wine comes from **Mencía** vines with an average age of over 20 years, grown in the vineyard **La Mendañona**, located in the Valderregueras area of Torre del Bierzo. The soils, of ferric clay with presence of stones and granitic sand, are located at an altitude of about 700 meters. The grapes are harvested in the last week of September, following traditional and sustainable viticulture practices. Winemaking: cold pre-fermentation maceration for 24 hours, alcoholic fermentation for 16 days in contact with the skins at less than 25 ºC, malolactic fermentation in tanks and aging on fine lees in 225 and 300 liter French oak barrels for 8 months before bottling. **Tasting notes** * **Sight:** Cherry red color, high layer. * **Nose:** Clean, elegant and fresh, with aromas of black fruit, plum, blueberry and red fruits, accompanied by notes of black pepper, clove, eucalyptus, vanilla, cocoa and subtle minerality. * **Mouth:** Sweet and fleshy attack, with ripe and friendly tannins. The acidity brings balance and freshness, offering a wine of great length and persistence. Notes of plum, blueberry and raspberry are again enhanced, along with spicy and mineral nuances linked to the terroir, providing authenticity and personality.
More than twenty-five years ago, Gregorio, José Ramón, Pedro and Manolo, friends since their university days, recalling the good times spent in their youth in the lands of Bierzo, decided to enter the exciting world of vineyards and wine. Thus was born "Altos de San Esteban", the project in Bierzo Alto of their winery "Marqués de Bembibre", which remembers and wants to honor the name of Manolo's father, Don Manuel Marqués "Patarita" (1925-2011), a lover of the vineyard, former winegrower and winemaker of Bembibre since the fifties of the last century, who supported, encouraged and advised the four partners at the beginning of their journey, with all his love, experience and knowledge. The wines are made with grapes harvested in the two estates of the winery, both included in the Designation of Origin "BIERZO":
