Made from Mencía vines over 25 years old, this wine comes from the La Mendañona vineyard, located in the municipality of Torre del Bierzo, on ferric clay soils at an altitude of over 700 meters above sea level. The viticulture that sustains it is traditional and sustainable. The process begins with a cold pre-fermentation maceration for 24 hours, followed by a 12-day alcoholic fermentation in contact with the skins at a temperature below 25ºC. This is followed by malolactic fermentation in tanks and aging on fine lees in French oak barrels for 6 months before bottling. In the visual phase, it has a bright red color with violet hues and medium-high depth. The nose is clean and fresh, with a predominance of red fruit notes, floral and balsamic nuances, as well as a slight mineral touch. The palate is fresh and agile, with a long finish that combines volume and complexity. It is a balanced and friendly wine that stands out for its youth and freshness, with a persistent finish in which notes of red berries, balsamic and a more marked mineral character reappear

More than twenty-five years ago, Gregorio, José Ramón, Pedro and Manolo, friends since their university days, recalling the good times spent in their youth in the lands of Bierzo, decided to enter the exciting world of vineyards and wine. Thus was born "Altos de San Esteban", the project in Bierzo Alto of their winery "Marqués de Bembibre", which remembers and wants to honor the name of Manolo's father, Don Manuel Marqués "Patarita" (1925-2011), a lover of the vineyard, former winegrower and winemaker of Bembibre since the fifties of the last century, who supported, encouraged and advised the four partners at the beginning of their journey, with all his love, experience and knowledge. The wines are made with grapes harvested in the two estates of the winery, both included in the Designation of Origin "BIERZO":
