MoreŽatecký Gus beer comes from the Baltika brewery, the undisputed leading Russian brewery despite its relative youth. The brewery was founded in St. Petersburg in 1990. The Žatecký Gus, literally translated as "The Zhatetsky Goose" is a rather mild golden lager that goes very well with snacks such as nuts, olives or chips.
Zatecky Gus is an easy-drinking beer that is brewed to a custom recipe with the addition of spicy "Zatecky" hops. This hop variety has been cultivated for more than 700 years in the north of the Czech Republic and is one of the most famous and highest quality varieties in the world.
In order to brew lagers such as Žatecký Gus, the beer must ferment at very low temperatures. In the past, lager beers were kept in cellars, cellars and caves; hence the name, because in German, the word lagern means to keep. In its beginnings (19th century), the brewing of this style of beer was quite an achievement, since it even allowed beer to be brewed during the heat of summer.
