MoreIn 1931 the current factory was built, employing local people with the intention of serving as a source of income for the reconstruction of the monastery. It was designed by Henry Vaes, who also designed the characteristic Orval goblet. The first beer left the brewery on May 7, 1932 in the form of barrels instead of the current bottles. Orval was the first Trappist beer to be sold nationally in Belgium.
Like other Trappist breweries, the profits from the sale of beer are used to support the monastic activity as well as various charitable works for the development of the region.
