The Valdevimbre cooperative brings together winegrowers from the municipality and the region of Valdevimbre-Los Oteros, a land historically linked to the cultivation of vines and recognized for a unique variety in the world: the Prieto Picudo. Founded in 1970, the cooperative was born with the purpose of preserving the winemaking activity in a period marked by emigration to the big cities. Its main objective was to unite the winegrowers of the area to keep the wine tradition alive, improve cultivation and winemaking methods, and contribute to stop the depopulation that threatened the region. Today, the cooperative is part of the regulatory body D.O. León and is undergoing a modernization process aimed at strengthening its competitiveness and producing wines capable of meeting the expectations of the most demanding consumers
